Faithful Parenting

October 12, 2024

Read Time: 3 minutes

Assalamualaikum,

Welcome to another edition of 'Cup of Parenting', where we juggle kids, faith, and everything in between—usually with a cup of tea in hand (or maybe cold by now, because #mumlife, right?). Whether you're a new mum, a seasoned pro, or somewhere in between, we've got your back with tips, laughs, and a little bit of wisdom sprinkled in.

This week, let’s talk about making life as a Muslim mum just a little easier—because let’s face it, life is already hard enough when you're trying to get your kid to eat anything that isn't beige. So here are three simple, actionable steps to help you with parenting and your Islamic lifestyle.

---

1. Make Du'a Your Superpower

You know how you can sometimes feel like you're failing as a mum? Yeah, we’ve all been there. But here’s a little reminder: Du’a (supplication) is your secret weapon. When the kids are bouncing off the walls or you're just running on fumes, pause for a moment and make a quick du’a. It’s like sending a divine SOS. Teach your kids to do it too, even for the little things, like finding lost toys. You'll be surprised how much peace it brings into your day!

Action Step:Take 2 minutes tonight before bed to make du’a with your kids. Let them ask for something on their heart. Even if it’s "more ice cream tomorrow," it’s a start!

2. Turn Chores Into Sadaqah

Doing laundry, cleaning up, making dinner... it’s never-ending! But did you know that when you’re doing it with the right intention, even cleaning up spaghetti from the wall can be considered an act of worship? Yep, that’s right! When you're serving your family, you’re serving Allah. So next time you’re knee-deep in mess, remind yourself (and your kids!) that these little things count.

Action Step: Next time you're doing a boring chore, say "Bismillah" before you start and mentally dedicate it as an act of sadaqah. Bonus: Get the kids involved with their own ‘mini’ chores!

3. Schedule "Me Time" (It's Sunnah, I Promise!)

Believe it or not, self-care is actually part of Islam. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged balance in life, and that includes taking care of your own mental and physical health. You’re no good to anyone if you’re running on empty. So, whether it’s sneaking in 10 minutes for some quiet dhikr (remembrance of Allah), a walk, or just a hot shower (without an audience!), make time for yourself.

Action Step: Block out at least 15 minutes tomorrow to do something just for you. Even if it’s hiding in the pantry with a chocolate bar. Your secret’s safe with us.

And there you have it—3 little steps to help you nurture your faith and your family life without feeling like you’re drowning in the deep end. You’ve got this, Super Mum! 💪
